Some of Southeast Asia’s largest kingdoms (the Khmer empires included) were local Hindu Kingdoms whose system of government, language, scripts (Khmer script is a direct descendent of the South Indian Pallava script of the Pallava Dynasty of South India), and other cultural aspects had heavy Indian influences.
